What I’m realizing about myself is that I have no confidence in success! It’s a serious issue and has a way of interfering with my desire to accomplish any task I set my mind to. I believe success is for some people but not for everybody. Let me explain…

Every person has goals, dreams, and even reasons why they were born into this realm. But I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say everybody has the ability to succeed in whatever they do. Everyone can be a billionaire, everyone can be a star, how many people have been told they can be president.

It seems we have all been fed a crock of crap when it comes to pep talks and “positive thinking”. One idea I am convinced is true is that you have to work hard at anything you want to achieve. And sometimes you may never reach the goals you set out to achieve.

Why am I so negative today? I want to always be honest in whatever mental space I find myself indulging in. Not always do I express disappointment or when I feel stuck, but I feel stuck.

Let me explain what is happening to me. I have a few irons on the stove right now, and some of them are causing me to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and at times anxious and discouraged.

I don’t always find the path that I take in life to be easy. Like many people, it seem hard the more I walk the path towards any goals. If I never get rich or I never become famous, I just want to at least achieve the simple goals I have for my life.

I’m not one to reach for the stars; I just want to create a space where I can help people like me who just want to reach the simple goals in their life. What I’m discovering is that there are a few obstacles in my way.

As a psychology graduate, I realize the mind and body don’t always work in sync and can be our worst enemies at times. Let’s talk about it.

I’m grappling with some profound realizations and challenges, and I’m willing to explore these feelings openly. However, my skepticism towards overly optimistic “pep talks” and the reality of success not being as universally attainable as sometimes portrayed is a grounded and realistic view. Recognizing that not everyone will reach the heights of wealth or fame, but that smaller, personal goals are still valid and meaningful, is an important perspective.

My background in psychology can be a powerful tool to help me. Understanding that the mind and body may not always be in sync highlights the complexity of our motivations and actions.

If you made it this far in the blog, I have some advice I feel is helpful if you are where I am or have been where I am or even maybe where I am at some point in your journey.

Here are a few thoughts on how we might approach these feelings of being stuck and overwhelmed:

1. Acceptance and Realistic Goal Setting: Begin by acknowledging your feelings without judgment. Accept that feeling stuck or overwhelmed is a normal part of life, especially when facing multiple challenges simultaneously. Setting realistic, attainable goals can help manage these feelings. Break larger tasks into smaller, more manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

2. Mindfulness and Presence: Practice mindfulness to help stay grounded in the present moment. This can alleviate some of the anxiety about the future and the pressure of unmet goals. Mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, or even mindful walking, can help synchronize the mind and body, making them allies rather than adversaries.

3. Exploring Underlying Beliefs: Sometimes, our internal narratives about success and failure can create barriers. Reflect on what beliefs you hold about success and where they come from. Are they truly your own, or are they influenced by societal expectations or familial pressures? Understanding this can help you redefine what success means to you personally.

4. Seeking Support: You don’t have to navigate these feelings alone. Engaging with a mentor, therapist, or support group can provide new perspectives and support. Sharing your struggles and achievements with others can make the journey less isolating and more manageable.

5. Helping Others: You mentioned a desire to create a space to help people achieve their simple goals. Focusing on this can be incredibly fulfilling and can also serve as a motivating force for you. Helping others often provides a sense of purpose and can reinforce your own abilities and strengths.

6. Celebrate Small Victories: Often, we overlook the small achievements in pursuit of larger goals. Take time to celebrate the small steps you complete. This can boost your confidence and motivate you to continue.

By applying my understanding of psychology, acknowledging my feelings, and taking practical steps towards my goals, I can begin to find more clarity and fulfillment, even if the path isn’t always clear or easy. My journey towards creating a meaningful space for myself and others is in itself a valuable and impactful goal.

  1. It’s commendable that you’re exploring your feelings openly and honestly. Feeling stuck and overwhelmed is a common experience, and it’s important to approach it with acceptance and realistic goal-setting. Your background in psychology can indeed be a valuable tool in navigating these challenges. Remember, you’re not alone, and seeking support from mentors or support groups can make a significant difference. Keep focusing on small victories and helping others, as these actions can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment. You’re on a journey towards creating a meaningful space for yourself and others, and that’s a valuable goal in itself. Congratulations! -ArConsultings.org
