I write this dedication to honor a man devoted to liberating others. Some were familiar faces, some mere acquaintances, and others only knew him through his voice.
He instilled in me the bravery to make a pivotal decision in my life. Like the Bishop, I was grappling with the doctrines and rituals of the church. I found it hard to accept everything preached and presented as the word of God.
His words and wisdom became my sanctuary. His voice merely amplified what was already echoing in my heart. After departing from the church, I stumbled upon his book, “The Gospel Of Inclusion,” when my family and friends were highly critical and judgmental of my choices. I was condemned to hell, labeled unsaved, delusional, and a heretic.
However, like the Bishop, I found comfort in what reverberated in my heart. I met him in Georgia at the church of the late Bishop David Huskins. His spirit was warm and gentle, yet deeply wounded. Bishop Huskins welcomed and provided him with a platform when many advised against it.
Bishop Pearson is a man of resilience and grace who walks modestly with his God. He is revolutionizing the church and enabling many to find a voice who were previously unable to articulate their experiences. Like me, we all found our voice through the voice of Bishop Carlton Pearson.
I hold deep affection for you, Bishop, and pray that your transition from this dimension is as gentle and loving as you have been to all who have heard your voice. For those who continue to judge you in your weakest moments, I can only pray that God’s grace is sufficient for them.
Dorothy W. Parker, M.A.
