What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

My Essence Is Not The Self That I Groom To Perform Everyday!
The oldest thing I am wearing today is life. My identity, which has been with me since birth, but my essence transcends the physical. While biologically, none of the cells in my body are as old as I am, who I am internally not only predates my current physical form but exists in a timeless dimension as a nonbinary being. Many of us are not aware that we have always existed, beyond the confines of time and space.
The idea that we are who we are has nothing to do with how we experience ourselves in these bodies. The body serves as life’s canopy, a temporary vessel that houses life essence but is not synonymous with it. This body cannot live or fully experience living without the essence of life animating it.
This concept was illuminated further when I listened to a YouTube video titled “What Makes Identity Continue?” featuring Christof Koch and hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn. It was a profound discussion. Kuhn posed a question about identity continuity: how do we maintain a sense of self from one day to the next when our physical body is in a constant state of renewal? Koch introduced the theory of “binding” in neuroscience, which suggests that our brains have the ability to integrate all our experiences to maintain a continuous sense of self, despite the physical changes our bodies undergo.
This conversation is pivotal because it emphasizes the brain’s role in maintaining our identity but also highlights a significant mystery: science does not fully understand why or how we preserve a consistent sense of self from birth to death.
Koch noted the limitations of current scientific methods: while experiments can manipulate neurons in animal brains to study behavior and memory, such interventions cannot be ethically performed on humans. Therefore, even if scientists were able to manipulate human neurons, they would not be able to locate the essence of “me” either in my brain or in my physical body.
As a nonbinary being, I exist without a fixed physical location; my influence energetically, affect the body I inhabit to experience life in this limited dimension. This makes the scientific quest to understand how over 7 billion unique individuals animate their bodies an elusive challenge, beyond the reach of conventional measurements.
So, the oldest “thing” I am wearing today is myself—the self I have designed and continuously manage to navigate a lived experience within this biological canopy.
I am a nonbinary being having a human experience in a biological body, which I manage through what is known as impression management—a psychological process where we influence others’ perceptions by controlling information in social interactions.
I am the observer of my experiences, ever-present and eternal. My reality fits me as snugly as a glove. In this earthly environment, I am not just living; I am life itself, expressing through animated biology. There is not a moment in this linited existence when I am not embodied life. I am ancient, beyond the constraints of time, and I have always been.
By stopping here to share, I remind you that the oldest thing you or I are wearing today is life, woven into the very essence of our physical being. ❤️
We are in essence nonbinary beings having a human experience!
