National Grandparents Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the first Sunday of September after Labor Day. It’s a day to honor and show appreciation for grandparents and their importance in our lives. The holiday was officially proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.

The idea for Grandparents Day was promoted by Marian McQuade, a West Virginia homemaker, who wanted to encourage families to visit and spend time with their elderly relatives and to recognize the wisdom and heritage that grandparents can provide. Since then, it has become a day for families to connect and celebrate the special bond between generations.
